Christmas Greetings

December 2022

I’m writing this in mid December - just in time to send Christmas greetings and wish you a New Year filled with love, laughter, creativity and nature.

Outside it is bitterly cold, snow is lying in the garden and the rooftops are white with frost - a full moon has been spectaular.

It’s been another busy month - the first weekend was happily filled with the annual ‘Heart of Suffolk’ Winter Exhibition in Thorpe Morieux in which 20 local artists and makers took part. We each donated a piece of work for a prize draw in aid of Project 21, a charity supporting people with Downes Syndrome. Mine was a hand-built porcelain vessel (pictured above) and happily, as three of my framed works sold on the Preview night I had a little shopping spree of my own and came home with a bag of artist-made beauties - here’s to the circular economy, buying local and supporting creativity!

New series

‘Ocean’

I’m developing a new series of box-framed, 3D assemblages that incorporate long-saved vintage ephemera from my collection of old photographs, letters and postcards. I’m adding lillustrations, scraps, collage, found objects and painted porcelain to create a sense of atmosphere and narrative. In ‘Ocean’ (above) a 1930’s postcard of fishing boats under a full moon was the starting point, suggesting the ebb and flow of the tides, lost and found memories, the passage of time and echoes from the past.

In the studio

Just so you aren’t deceived by the calm order of the top picture I thought I would show you some photos from my studio - it can get very, very messy!

Thank you

Thanks again to all returning customers for 2023 ‘Garden Days’ Calendars Diaries and Greetings cards. Unfortunately the ongoing Postal workers strike has meant that although we aim to post out all orders received by 2.00pm on the same day, some of them may be delayed. We are doing everything we can, including getting tracking certificates for each package despatched. Do get in touch if you are concerned about your order.

Thanks also for your kind messages - it makes me so happy to feel that my work is appreciated and I love hearing from you. My first ‘Garden Days’ calendars were published in 1996 so they have become a part of my life as well as yours and are very close to my heart.

And a final thank you for taking the time to read this.

Happy gardening, stay positive and stay safe all :-)
