Long walks along the beach and lazy picnics in the sunshine, like me, my garden enjoys time-out in August.
Left to its own devices, self-seeded Cupid’s Dart, Catanache caerulea has found a perfect spot amongst airy fountains of Stipa tenuissima, its clear blue, dark-eyed flowers losing their petals to reveal daily crops of papery seed-heads that sway and rustle in the breeze, irresistible to the touch.
On the terrace a potted Geranium, Pelargonium sidoides has taken pride of place and is now on my list of ‘must have‘ plants. Long wiry stems topped with tiny garnet coloured flowers burst from a mound of blue-green, velvety leaves and I can’t help but rush for my camera to catch details of petals and seed-heads as the firework show of summer advances all too quickly towards autumn. |
