One of the loveliest things about having a garden is being able to share it with others ~ even better when that involves cooking or eating!
The old apple and pear trees we inherited when we moved here are laden with fruit this autumn and I can’t resist including this photo of Harry playing his part in recent apple harvesting activities. Tomatoes picked fresh from the vine have been another delight and rainy Sunday afternoons have been usefully spent making batches of Pear and Vanilla butter.
Fond memories of my parent’s garden make me long for room enough for a fruit cage and vegetable beds but
ornamental herbs are easier to find space for and I couldn’t be without a clump or two of purple sage to soften the front of sunny borders. Next year I am planning to add Painted Sage, Salvia viridis from seed bought from Jekka’s Herb Farm - do take a look at the wonderful selection available there. |
