Take a look at these little beauties - treats indeed for the eyes and nose!

Viburnum carlchephalon now fills the air with its spicy fragrance and Akebia quinata - aptly named 'the chocolate vine' is scrambling along the trellis with abandon after years of sulkily failing to flourish.

What visual delights too - acid green leaves of Humulus lupulus ‘Aurea’ and flower-like bracts of Euphorbia polychroma are thrown into sharp contrast by the dusky mauves of Sedum ‘Purple Emperor’, the violet flowers of Primula auricula and the emerging bright magenta leaves of Cotinus coggygria ‘Royal Purple’.

This won’t last long. Soon the firework display of spring will have moved on to the delights of early summer.
I try hard to fix the sight in my mind but swelling buds of bearded iris, poppies and roses already distract my fickle eyes - how blessed I feel.
